I have been waiting for this bloom for 2 years. I love peony bushes - always have. The blossoms just flow in the breeze and stay together when they are so delicate it looks like they could be crushed!
I planted this bush 2 years ago near the end of summer. I got a small start and it had enough time to root before the winter came. Last year it just grew into a bush and then the heat came and fried it up. I thought the bush was beyond hope or repair so I let it go last summer.
Yet, this spring. I saw some of the roots come back to life and I got excited. A week later, I noticed even more of them coming alive. Then in two weeks I had a full size bush that was a great start for a hardy little peony bush. THRILLING - I looked a week after that and I had buds!
Then we had a shock freeze for a week.
I looked out at all my plants and all the buds had turned black. Will there be any blooms before June - if at all?
I was delighted and my soul sang when I was leaving to go to Wal-Mart and I look up from the driver's seat and see this...luckily it was still the morning light playing on her beautiful folds. I stood there and admired her. She is a survivor and deserves much adoration for the journey she has taken. I have been stopping everyone who comes by the house - look look at her! she's so beautiful! I practically shout at them with such enthusiasm for my little peony.
How true is that of you - can you see yourself as a beauty who has survived much? I know so many of you are exactly that - a beauty who has endured and you are AMAZING!
